I have a cozy studio apartment in West Village. It is considered downtown Manhattan and the neighborhood is just lovely. Compared to Toronto, I would say it’s a mix between Liberty Village and Kensington. Compared to LA, I would say it’s very Abbot Kinney with a Venice Beach feel. I love my big windows! So when I moved here, I had none of my stuff so I only had my mattress and the ‘make a closet’ from Target. Kinda empty right?

but alas, my things arrived in 8 mangled boxes via Fed Ex ground eventually 2 weeks later.

So with I had to find a place for all my clothes, shoes and clothes and more shoes.

OMG right? But guess what, it all fit in my ‘closet’!

Ta-da! Shoes on the left, tops on the right and all hangables on the top, skirts on the bottom, bags on the top! Woo!

We are just a hop skip away from NYU and Washington Square. On the weekend, a guy rolls his piano there and plays for everyone! He is a concert pianist at the very least – it’s wonderful.

Two bright windows, more than happy! I can people watch and sit by the window thinking about my life… and what to blog

I have yet to find a ‘bed’ but I am okay with my mattress for now.

So this is the tour – Here is my room, closet, bed and mini sofa

And right beside the bed, is my kitchenette, perfect for small gourmet meals for 1.

The door is right beside it.. lol. This is how cozy and quaint New York apartments are.

Right past my kitchenette is my bathroom! It has a stand up shower, sink and toilet. I pee/shower with the door open cuz… it get a bit claustrophobic because it’s so tiny.

So that’s my place! 1 month in New York so far… so far so good Please come visit, but 1 at a time…!

Jacob and I were walking around the Garment District and I saw the cutest girl. She was like Fifi Lapin come to life. She was talking to her friend on her phone loudly in Mandarin and we were just a block away from Fashion Institute of Technology. She is so cool. I noticed she was wearing over-sized round Chanel shades, a grey nonchalant sweatshirt and then these lovely sparkly sneakers! I didn’t recognize them, they are probably from somewhere fantastic like China. Here are the one’s I found online:

(NY) Bubble Guy

I was walking around last week and I saw this amazingness at Union Square. Such a simple gesture but so inspirational and appropriate to those sensitive enough to notice. I am always looking for a sign. I was feeling exceptionally unsure about what New York holds for me and what I should be doing. But when I saw this man, I realized what I have known all along and maybe kind of forgot momentarily. People tell you to get safe, have a plan B and ask yourself 100 x if you are sure when you already knew from the get go that you were. I think it take only 5 seconds to know know you have to GO FOR IT. But it may take 5 days, 5 months or even 5 years of reasoning and back pedaling until you actually have to courage to do it. I was on the phone with my friend and he told me the thing he loves the most about me is that I really don’t get a *beep* and what I want I truly go for it, knowing that you it will work out.
I truly believe in ‘Manna from Heaven‘. It comes in all kinds of ways, shapes and forms especially when self doubt is at an all time high and opportunities seems to be slim to none. Sometimes, it truly is a sign like this:

and sometimes, it is less obviously but no less entertaining like this:

I stood in awe, like the child in the green jacket at just stared at the multitude of colors and the bubble coming to life. Many many people walked on by, hurried to their destination or loudly talked on their cellphones or was too busy texting to even look up to notice. I love things like this because when you are truly sensitive to the world around you, you will see, hear, smell, taste and feel more.

Moral of the day: Don’t let anyone burst your bubble.

A few months ago, I was contacted by the Social Media person of Nygard introducing the brand to me. As they are doing massive rebranding and new media efforts, I was really excited to see what they have brewing. Here is great background in from our friends at Wikipedia:
On December 1, 1967, Peter Nygård used his life savings and an additional loan of $8,000 to purchase 20% of a woman’s clothing manufacturer. A few years later Peter Nygård owned the company and renamed it Nygård International.Nygård apparel manufacturing company was founded in 1967 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is now headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. Peter Nygård’s fashion concept retail store opened in Times Square in Manhattan on Friday, November 6, 2009.

I had the pleasure of going to that very store today. It is located on prime real estate, att 40th and Broadway. The store is prominent and beautifully lit. I got to chatting with the manager, Marsha at the store and she said lots of exciting things coming up for the holidays!

So who is Emily King?

Emily King is the biracial daughter of accomplished jazz singers/composers Marion Cowings and Kim Kalesti. Due to their similar backgrounds, King is compared sometimes to the singer Alicia Keys.
Her debut album, East Side Story 2007; it gets it’s title gets it’s from New York City’s Lower East Side, where King was raised.
“I’ve been singing since I was a young kid,” she said, going on to state that despite both her parents being singers, she wasn’t pressured to follow in their footsteps as a vocalist. “I just always kind of knew. Something in my heart said that’s going to be it.”
